Zen Vibes

IMG_0044

When Eryn and I moved in together, I had to reorganize my life (moving is good for that, at least). I love having a desk in my room, because it’s like my little zen sanctuary where I can be creative and get work done without any distractions. I’ve always loved keeping things simple, decorative, and girly! But much to my surprise, a lot of my girlfriends live in perpetual clutter, chucking clothes, old documents, jewelry, fake eyelashes – you name it! – on their desks. We’re all guilty of getting a lil messy because, let’s face it, none of us have enough time. But I’ve recently realized how happy it makes me to come home to my cute, organized desk that showcases my fave jewelry and perfumes!

That’s my zen tip. It’s so nice to know that you have a clean surface in your room, a place where you can escape from wine nights and rowdy apartment visitors to just sit and do your makeup / paint your nails / write a thank you card / blog / work / skype / etc etc etc! I promise, your life will feel so much more organized, and you’ll feel happy when your desk is cute, clean, and a showcase of all your beautiful girly trinkets!

Just random thoughts of the day, but it’s the little stuff that matters and really makes ya happy! Hope everyone had a great Monday!

xx

Feelin’ the Blues! 4th of July Makeup Faves

Capture.PNG1

Blue makeup is my fave because it draws sooo much attention to the eyes! No matter your eye color or shape, a touch of deep blue brightens eyes and adds artsiness to your look!

Even if you’re a skeptic or a fan of more neutral looks, blue is perfect for the Fourth of July! I buy cheapy brands when I’m playing with funky colors — I like knowing I can test out a color and not feel bad if I never wear it again. I love Beauty Rush from Victoria’s Secret for silly beauty buys and funky colors, because I know the stuff is super cheap but also quality that won’t run / smear all over my face (eew to smeary makeup).

If you’re new to colorful makeup…

Start slow by applying your makeup as you usually would. Trade out your traditional black mascara for a blue wand, and sha-BAM you are now very edgy / artsy / hipster. The trick is to use a DARK blue (none of that baby blue ish on your eyelashes please!!) &I promise you can barely even tell that it’s not black! The effect is noticeable only when you’re outside and rays of sunshine hit your lashes. It’s subtle but sooo pretty… I’ve gotten tons of compliments on days I didn’t even realize I was wearing the stuff!

If you have big eyes…

Try a metallic baby blue shadow (my favorite is Teal Fury from Lancome. I have the old version, photographed below!). The look is perfect for a sunny summer day like the Fourth, and will bring attention to your big beautiful eyes!! The super light, shimmery effect is fun & playful, making you appear dressed up and put together even if you’re wearing a simple outfit or bikini all day!

If you have small eyes…

Use a thick, shimmery blue liner. The glitter in the liner will make your eyes look bigger, while the blue will complement your eye color and make it appear brighter!

If you’re here to party…

It’s Fourth of July!! Go big or go home. Put the whole shebang together (blue shadow, eye liner, and mascara) for a winning look. The trick is to really emphasize one product and remain subtle with the others! I like to go big on the eye shadow by layering it all over my lid, up to the crease. I add a thin layer of liner right against my top lash line, and finish with a few waves of mascara. BAM. You’re done!

Strawberry brown sugar face mask

A concoction that gets rid of dead skin cells and moisturizes all skin types to reveal soft, glowing skin! This pre-makeup regimen is excellent for use before an important evening out, revealing your most radiant skin!

What you’ll need:
-2 large strawberries, mashed
-1 tablespoon brown sugar
-1 tablespoon coconut oil

The how-to:
Combine the 3 ingredients in a small bowl and mix together until well blended. Wash you face with warm water to open pores, then scoop into your hands.

Apply mask to clean skin and leave on for 7 minutes. If the concoction is too goopy, just add more brown sugar until the mix sits comfortably on your face.

(WARNING: This stuff smells so good, you’ll feel like you put a dollop of grandma’s jelly on your face! I actually had to take a taste and the stuff is delicious.)

After 7 – 10 minutes has elapsed, rinse your face with cold water. The cold water will close your pores and leave your skin a soft, exfoliated base for your regular makeup routine!

This is also a great pre-bedtime regimen! If you plan to use before sleeping, wash the mask off your face using warm water (this will keep your pores open to absorb any pre-bedtime serums or creams), and then apply your night treatments as usual.

This is one of our favorite all-natural face treatments, and is safe to use daily! It’s a steal too – compares to Fresh Sugar Face Polish at $58 a pot!
