Mammoth Vibes

IMG_7944If you had to choose ONE place in the entire world to go to with a snap of a finger, whenever you needed to unwind, where would it be?

My answer would be Mammoth, hands down. I am sure some of you already knew that based on older posts. Whenever I have an ounce of time, I always make an effort to travel there. I have so much history and so many memories there because Mammoth was a staple family vacationing spot every summer growing up.

We all lead such busy lives, where we are constantly hustling from one enterprise to another. It is extremely important to TREAT YO SELF, every once in a while. Mammoth is my treat. I am completely and utterly in love with this near perfect place.

Most tourists (and even locals) go there after a long day on the slopes or a strenuous hike, and cool off with a flight of beers, which is about $5 (for 6 different tastings) and some snacks (yes, they added an eatery in there)! I highly recommend that you go! The Golden Trout Ale and Double Nut Brown are my favorite! The inside of the brewery is spacious and cozy, but if you want to enjoy the view of the mountains or fresh air, there is a lovely outdoor area with benches to relax.

At Home Inspo Canvases

IMG_8949

Last weekend was my beautiful friend Brittney’s birthday! It was so much fun! We had the best girl’s day that started with a hike through a forest oasis of super-tall trees and waterfalls. Afterwards, we headed back to her place and painted inspirational life quotes on canvases. It was so relaxing and fun to just forget the real world, sip beer, and paint!

Brittney bought canvases at JoAnn’s fabrics for less than $7 a pack (talk afforadable!), and threw around some fun paints, glitters, and metallic pens for us to craft with. It was the perfect afternoon! We chatted about upcoming weddings (why are all of my friends getting engaged?! CRAZY!), ate salad, watched How to Get Away With Murder, and were pretty much as girlie as it gets! Such a fun afternoon, and definitely one to replicate for any east-coasters stuck in the snow! Check out our photos below for some inspiration! Think mason jars, Martha Stewart glitter, and salad-while-you-paint (aka.. excuse the salad bowl remnants in our shots! Girls gotta eat!)

^^ My canvas? “Friends, lovers, and glasses of wine. 3 things that should never be counted.” AMEN SISTAS! (+ a little teal glitter heart – it looks like a blob here because I was waiting for the glitter to dry!)

All Gold Everything

lvl

The new year is a perfect time to liven up your home decor! Gold is warm and glittery, a great accent color for any area in the house. I love paring gold with soft pastels, bold blacks, and white walls! Here’s my inspo for each of the items above (plus, lots of blog inspired DIY options):

1 – Bar Cart! Bar carts are big news right now, esp for the yuppie generation that loves the idea of having a mini bar, but doesn’t have an apartment equipped with a built in. A bar cart is a super cute, stylish way to display cutesy bottles, glasses, straws, mixers, etc! Check out this article by Camille Styles for inspo on how to make your bar cart beautiful!

2 -Faux Antlers! Faux is everything! Faux antlers are beautiful and decorative without the cruelty that we H A T E. Use these as jewelry hangers for a multi-purpose storage / decor option! For an awesome DIY tutorial, check out The Blissful Bee.

3 / 4 – Gold dipped vases & lamps! Start with simple glass bottles or jars and DIY these boys into sparkly little gems. Two twenty one has a superb step-by-step guide! Check it out:

5 – Vintage inspired gold mirror! Try your local thrift shop, then follow HGTV’s guide on how to antique a mirror.

6 – Golden long stemmed silverware! We haven’t reached the point of DIY on these kids, but they do pair marvelously with every table setting… ever. Just go buy some.

1920’s Inspired Holiday Looks!

Boardwalk Empire Inspired Looks!

I’m seeing 1920’s / Boardwalk Empire inspired looks all over the runways and in stores, and I’m personally oogling the sequined 1920’s era dress above for upcoming holiday parties and NYE!

If you’re not sure what to wear for a big upcoming event, but you want to look non-basic and super stylish, try opting for garb from this era! It’s fun and classic and screams fashionista.

For the ladies:

These looks are about being classy and timeless. We love the art-deco jewelry pieces that complement any outfit and clash different metals and gems into single, artistic pieces.

Feathers add a flair of femininity and playfulness. With their soft edges and colorful options, feathers are fun features on clutches, head pieces, and even earrings! If you’re going for a feathery look, wear simple makeup that puts focus on long lashes and flushed cheekbones.

A flapper inspired dress can be both sexy and sophisticated, and simplifies getting ready by calling all attention to itself! Keep shoes tall, strappy, and try to incorporate black/silver/gold hues.

For the men:

Try sporting a hat if you normally don’t – we suggest simple fedoras or boat hats to add instant sophistication to your look.

Wingtip shoes are a must, especially when paired with a fun bow tie or suspenders.

Don’t hesitate to mix and match different colors and patterns – why not try a striped sport coat with light pants and a dark fedora? If you’re really trying to play the part, throw in a Gatsby-inspired cane.

Sending out this inspo to all the darlings stuck in the cold this week! It’s still sunny in LA, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! With Thanksgiving around the corner, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before we stash our cut-off shorts and start nomming on the pumpkin pie. I’m lovin’ this look because it features two pieces that I knowww I’ll be wearing all winter long: body chains (YES) & kimonos (think paired over a long sleeve, under a leather jacket, or with denim tied in!).

Would you wear a body chain?? How do you incorporate body chains into your look?? Share below or tag us on insta @halfsiesblog for a chance to be featured!

Every year as temps start to drop, I hunt for looks that will keep me warm without compromising style. I love this look because it’s simple and perfect for day-to-night versatility! The warm knit sweater adds an element of casual comfort to an otherwise polished glam, and gets bonus points for being comfy + warm. If you’re looking for a sleeker look, opt for a leather jacket in place of the sweater! The peep-toe booties have a flair that’s flirty and fun, but switch them out for knee-high boots in cooler weather! Tie the whole look together with romantic curls and simple makeup.

This weekend was all about being bohemian chic. I wasn’t sure where the day would take me yesterday, so I wanted to be ready for any situation be it casual / artsy / dressy. We ended up going to a street jazz festival (artsy), followed by dinner at one of my faveee restaus (dressier), followed by game night back at home (casual). Turns out my outfit was versatile enough for all!

Since my dress has a patterned lace overlay, I decide to opt out of wearing a belt or any loud jewelry. I kept earrings and necklaces simple, then decorated my wrists with a chunky sequined cloth bracelet and a few bangles (and my Jaw Bone Up Band, obviii).

This weekend’s look:
