It’s the most festive time of the year… COOKIE TIME!!! Everyone loves holiday cookies, and I’ve been dying to whip up the most perfect batch of my favorite holiday treats: peppermint pretzel cookies. Mouth watering yet? I’m not peppermint’s biggest fan, but these are wild. Try just one and you’re bound to get caught with your hand stuck in the cookie jar. You can thank me later.
Wanna try? We use Sunny Anderson’s recipe, but nix the chocolate chips and candy canes. Instead, we buy Trader Joe’s Peppermint Pretzel Thins, mash them up, and mix ’em in. Use your discretion, but we usually add about a half cup. Side note: don’t even think about trying the batter before you bake it. It’s that good.
Restaurant Name: Hiatus Location: 1292 S. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA Halfsies Rating: ★★★★★ Halfsies Bank: $ Great for: Lunch, taco tuesday
What I loved: That the amazing slow-cooked BBQ is also healthy! It’s the best of both worlds!! Not to mention the amazing menu that is super straightforward (think Chipotle assembly line). Don’t forget to try the sauces and slaws (I love the Horseradish Sauce and the Kale/Apple Slaw)!
What I’d improve: I wish this badass space was bigger so that I could bring everyone I know!
What I’d recommend: A plate with pulled pork, spicy sauce (if horseradish isn’t your thing), and any of the slaws! You CANNOT leave without a smoked chocolate chip cookie! **They’re so good, mention Halfsies anytime through 8/1/14 to get a free cookie!!
Think the food looks bomb? The place is also amazingly decorated with rustic art-inspired pieces!
We even got to hang out with the owner / head chef! Thanks for hosting us Hiatus… my mouth is still watering!
◊ How perfect is Lauren Conrad? Even her cookies (above) are flawless ◊
LC is a goddess. If she’s allowed to eat chocolate chip cookies then HELL, so are we. We based these perfect cookies off of the original Lauren Conrad Recipe, but made a few tweaks customized to our taste!
Here’s what you’ll need:
♥2 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
♥1 teaspoon baking soda
♥½ teaspoon of sea salt (plus more for sprinkling on top)
♥1 stick butter
♥½ cup Greek yogurt
♥1 ¼ cup packed coconut sugar
♥¼ cup granulated sugar
♥1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
♥2 teaspoons vanilla extract
♥½ cup carob chips
♥½ cup chocolate chips
The how to:
Mix together dry ingredients.
Combine melted butter and Greek yogurt. Add sugars to the mix until well blended, then add egg yolk and vanilla.
Add the dry ingredients slowly, mixing until combined. Add carob / chocolate chips to taste.
Place dough on a cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 8 minutes. Sprinkle sea salt on top right after they come out of the oven!
Lauren Lowstan’s Tip: If you want to get the perfect chocolate chip cookies that are crispy on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside, then refrigerate your dough balls for 24-48 hours before baking. Make sure to bring to room temperature before putting in the oven. This will give your cookies the perfect crispy-to-chewy ratio.
And you’re ready to enjoy! We love ours with a Yogi Chai Green Tea latte (seep green tea packet in warm almond milk).
