Beauty Review: Younique

Screen Shot 2014-07-14 at 8.38.28 PM As you know, we love trying new things – whether it is food, adventures, or styles, we are always open to discovering new opportunities and experiences. Recently, we were lucky enough to try out Younique’s Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes and Moodstruck Mineral Pigment Powders! Usually, us girls, tend to stick with the makeup products we are more familiar with – fearing that our skin might not react well with something new. But, we were so intrigued with what Younique had to offer, we couldn’t pass it up! It was so much fun being able to experiment with these new products, which are quickly becoming some of our faves!

The Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes dramatically enhance and magnify the appearance of your own lashes, with the use of Transplanting Gel and Natural Fibers. We feel that falsies could often times be uncomfortable and difficult to apply, whereas, the fiber lashes create incredible volume and length to your existing lashes in an easy 4-steps. We were even able to wear the product in the pool, without it running down our face, or creating a heavy raccoon eye!

To get amazing lashes, follow these steps:
1. Apply a thin coat of your favorite regular mascara on both sets of lashes. Let dry.
2. Then apply an even coat of transplanting gel on lashes.
3. Immediately, before gel has time to dry, apply fibers onto lashes.
4. Lastly, seal the fibers with another coat of transplanting gel.

*When you are done applying the last coat of transplanting gel, feel free to use a mascara comb to get out any clumps.
*To remove, use warm water and facial cleanser.

We also had the opportunity to try Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Powder, which are 100% natural, chemical-free, mineral-based pigment powders that add a little shimmer and shine to your look. The colors we used were “Sexy”, “Confident”, and “Feisty” — and yes, you end up feeling like all 3 when you are done.

“Sexy” is a lighter, peachy shimmer, that could be worn as a summer’s day shade or even lightly applied above the cheekbone, creating a beautiful light and glow to the center of the face.
“Feisty” is a silver shimmer that could be worn during the day or evening. It would be lovely by itself or blended in with a darker hue to compliment a smokey eye.
“Confident” is perfect for a night out on the town! The darker shade can be used for a smokey eye, adding a sultry look.

Now that you are familiar with these awesome products, we recommend that you check out the rest of their beauty line at

Last night, we attended the Los Angeles Sports Awards at the beautiful Beverly Hilton Hotel. It was a lovely event, which recognized the best sports moments of 2013. Some highlights from the evening were meeting LA Clippers’ Coach, Doc Rivers, as well as Clippers’ Point God, Chris Paul, who was awarded Sportsman of the Year. Check out the photos below!

Strawberry brown sugar face mask

A concoction that gets rid of dead skin cells and moisturizes all skin types to reveal soft, glowing skin! This pre-makeup regimen is excellent for use before an important evening out, revealing your most radiant skin!

What you’ll need:
-2 large strawberries, mashed
-1 tablespoon brown sugar
-1 tablespoon coconut oil

The how-to:
Combine the 3 ingredients in a small bowl and mix together until well blended. Wash you face with warm water to open pores, then scoop into your hands.

Apply mask to clean skin and leave on for 7 minutes. If the concoction is too goopy, just add more brown sugar until the mix sits comfortably on your face.

(WARNING: This stuff smells so good, you’ll feel like you put a dollop of grandma’s jelly on your face! I actually had to take a taste and the stuff is delicious.)

After 7 – 10 minutes has elapsed, rinse your face with cold water. The cold water will close your pores and leave your skin a soft, exfoliated base for your regular makeup routine!

This is also a great pre-bedtime regimen! If you plan to use before sleeping, wash the mask off your face using warm water (this will keep your pores open to absorb any pre-bedtime serums or creams), and then apply your night treatments as usual.

This is one of our favorite all-natural face treatments, and is safe to use daily! It’s a steal too – compares to Fresh Sugar Face Polish at $58 a pot!

Short but Sweet

mammothMammoth, CA.

One of my favorite places in the entire world. My home away from home – a quaint, euphoric place, making it perfectly suitable for escapism.

photo PhotoJan0282850PM_zps3cfd651e.jpgI have been to Mammoth every summer since I was a child. It is where all of my family summer vacations took place – camping, fishing, hiking, you name it! It was only until recently when we decided to take on the winter chill. This past winter break, my cousins and I made our way to the Eastern Sierra, where we shredded on the powder, and the term ‘bra/bro’ was used quite often. My cousins are much more experienced and balanced snowboarders than I, being that my nickname the entire weekend was ‘Snow Bunny’. I am guessing that was a compliment… right? Anyways, if you ever feel the need to get away from the real world for a couple days (and I suggest you do), and somehow end up in Mammoth, below are a list of activities I suggest you try!

  1. Camping (Caution: There are bears – sometimes – just put away ALL food items)
  2. Fishing (Catch and release – NO BANANAS for lunch – bad luck)
  3. Hiking (You may find a lake at the end of the hike so take extra clothes)
  4. Mountain Biking (Wear a helmet – Take the Paper Route – great trail for beginners)
  5. Horseback Riding (Wear comfy clothes)
  6. Snowboarding/Skiing/Sledding/Cross Country Skiing (Dress warm – take a lesson, there are cute instructors)
  7. Shopping (TONIC – super cute boutique)
  8. Brewery (Mammoth Brewing Company – DO IT – Responsibly)

A glimpse into my winter in Mammoth… (watch in HD!)

Restaurant Review: Bizarra Capital

Restaurant Name: Bizarra Capital
Location: 12706 Philadelphia St, Whittier CA
Halfsies Rating: ★★★★☆
Halfsies Bank: $$
Genre: Mexican
Great for: Brunch with girlfriends

It’s a rainy Sunday here in LA, and what better way to spend a pre-Oscars morning than mimosa-brunching with the GFs?

We decided to try out Bizarra Capital, a spot recently featured in the LAtimes as both trendy & delicious.

What we loved: super cheap, super delicious, super filling, and super-cute brick backdrops for photoshooting our rainy-day outfits (score!)

What we’d improve: the place doesn’t have bottomless mimosas! For us, that’s a necessity. But at only $4 a pop, no one’s really complaining

What we’d recommend: chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, & agave syrup margaritas

Halfsies Launch!

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 5.36.12 PM

Screen Shot 2014-02-24 at 10.44.40 PM

Hello and welcome to Halfsies!! We are so excited to finally announce the launch of our blog! The concept has been a long time in the making, and our inspiration over the past few weeks has been rampant. After several meetings and many mimosas, we’re finally ready with a concept and direction that is, well, direction-less.

To elaborate – when there was first talk of starting a blog, we struggled when asked where our focus would lie. Our real passions align with categories neatly labeling our header bar, but in all reality Halfsies is a testament to life young, free, and spontaneous. Our journeys here will cross the lines of fashion and food, but will also go far beyond to the shenanigans that define our everyday lives. We believe in the beauty of sharing the things that make us happy, and hope that these things will in turn inspire and bring contentment to our readers. We love getting ideas and insight from others, and hope that you too will seek to collaborate with us!

The foundation of Halfsies is set in our friendship. We met the first day of first grade, and have been friends ever since. After nearly 20 years as hapa sisters, we’ve seen our share of ups and downs, laughs and tears. Although some elements of our personalities are poles apart, our love for fashion, food, fun, & adventure always seem to align. Our fervor is the DNA of who we are as a team: a little bit of this, and a little bit of that – forming Halfsies.

We hope that you enjoy what we have to say! Stay tuned :)
