(click HERE to see all locations in Seattle!)
Halfsies Rating: ★★★★★
Halfsies Bank: $$
Genre: Ice Cream
Great for: Unique flavors of homemade ice cream – great on a hot summer’s day!

What I loved: The welcoming vibe – you could tell they are a community driven shop.

What I’d recommend: Maple Walnut Ice Cream… YUMMMM :)

I learned that they have six stand alone locations, as well as a BIG BLUE ice cream truck! If you are having a company party, family bbq, birthday party, etc. – call up Molly Moon to come to your gathering (Seattle based).

It is also important to know that their ice cream flavors rotate with the seasons, as well as the availability of ingredients. You can find out what flavors are coming out via Twitter AND you can request a flavor here!

Restaurant Review: Zengo

Restaurant Name: Zengo
Location: 395 Santa Monica Pl, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Halfsies Rating: ★★★★★
Halfsies Bank: $$$
Genre: Tapas
Great for: Brunch

What we loved: $39 brunch includes unlimited tapas & drinks for a two-hour period

What we’d improve: If you don’t make a rezzie, tough luck. We wish there were better accomodations for walk-ins, but this place is so great, we’re actually okay with making brunch plans ahead of time.

What we’d recommend: Ask your server to bring out an assortment of dishes, proportionate to the number of guests you have at your table. Once you’ve tried everything on the extensive brunch menu, you can request seconds (and thirds) of your favorite items!! I’m in love with the empanadas, brussel sprouts, sushi rolls, yucca fries, and meatballs!!

Be forewarned… on weekends Zengo is known for DJs spinning hot tunes! It can get loud, but is a perfect way to keep the party going on Sunday Funday!

Feelin’ the Blues! 4th of July Makeup Faves

Blue makeup is my fave because it draws sooo much attention to the eyes! No matter your eye color or shape, a touch of deep blue brightens eyes and adds artsiness to your look!

Even if you’re a skeptic or a fan of more neutral looks, blue is perfect for the Fourth of July! I buy cheapy brands when I’m playing with funky colors — I like knowing I can test out a color and not feel bad if I never wear it again. I love Beauty Rush from Victoria’s Secret for silly beauty buys and funky colors, because I know the stuff is super cheap but also quality that won’t run / smear all over my face (eew to smeary makeup).

If you’re new to colorful makeup…

Start slow by applying your makeup as you usually would. Trade out your traditional black mascara for a blue wand, and sha-BAM you are now very edgy / artsy / hipster. The trick is to use a DARK blue (none of that baby blue ish on your eyelashes please!!) &I promise you can barely even tell that it’s not black! The effect is noticeable only when you’re outside and rays of sunshine hit your lashes. It’s subtle but sooo pretty… I’ve gotten tons of compliments on days I didn’t even realize I was wearing the stuff!

If you have big eyes…

Try a metallic baby blue shadow (my favorite is Teal Fury from Lancome. I have the old version, photographed below!). The look is perfect for a sunny summer day like the Fourth, and will bring attention to your big beautiful eyes!! The super light, shimmery effect is fun & playful, making you appear dressed up and put together even if you’re wearing a simple outfit or bikini all day!

If you have small eyes…

Use a thick, shimmery blue liner. The glitter in the liner will make your eyes look bigger, while the blue will complement your eye color and make it appear brighter!

If you’re here to party…

It’s Fourth of July!! Go big or go home. Put the whole shebang together (blue shadow, eye liner, and mascara) for a winning look. The trick is to really emphasize one product and remain subtle with the others! I like to go big on the eye shadow by layering it all over my lid, up to the crease. I add a thin layer of liner right against my top lash line, and finish with a few waves of mascara. BAM. You’re done!

Blog Feature: London, Like the City

Name: London

Blog Name: London, Like the city

Nickname: Lond, Londy, Londo, Londonbridges

Why did you start blogging? I first started food blogging in college, but then realized I wanted a creative outlet to document and share all of my interests, fun projects and favorite things.

How did you come up with the name, ‘London, Like the City’?  I wanted a blog name that tied to my own name so it could grow with me as my focus and interests changed. I end up having to say “like the city” all the time when meeting new people or ordering coffee, so it stuck .

What has been the highlight of your blogging career so far? All of the creative friends and people I’ve met that I never would have came across without the blog world! I also got to attend some fun events this year, like the LuckyFABB Conference and Bloguettes workshop. And of course, getting to collaborate with cool brands I love is always exciting.

Where do you get your inspiration? Pinterest, long drives, the beach.

What is the mantra for your blog? “London, Like the City” is a San Diego-based healthy lifestyle diary that celebrates everything from food and DIY projects to stylized living and holistic health. It’s a creative place to document my interests, inspiration, and journey to finding balance & purpose as a twenty-something!

Date night dinner: Homemade pizza

If you’re into simple, healthy meals that are a ton of fun to prepare, this is for you! There’s something special and super entertaining about making pizza from scratch… this is a great go-to date dinner because it takes the pressure off of cooking! It’s something you can do together, while simultaneously being creative & personalizing your pies so that they’re made just the way you like ’em!

Here’s what you’ll need:
♥ 1 package Pamela’s Pizza Crust Mix
♥ 2-1/4 tsp or 7grams active dry yeast
♥ 1 cup plus 2 TBSP very warm water (110°optimum)
♥ 2 TBSP oil
♥ Pizza sauce
♥ Toppings of choice (we love mozzarella, prosciutto, fresh tomatoes, & arugula)

The how to:
♥ Mix & form pizza crust as directed on Pamela’s Pizza Crust
♥ Par-bake pizza crust (aka cook about halfway through)
♥ Spread pizza sauce onto par-baked crust
♥ Cover pizza with toppings of choice, then return to oven for another 5 – 10 minutes
♥ Remove, slice, & enjoy!

If you’re having guests over, making personalized pizzas can be the “event” of the evening. Start your peeps off with a fun cocktail or drink, and make sure to put out some snacks so that no one is tempted to eat the ingredients! ;) See below for one of my favorite light & easy drinks:

What you’ll need:
♥White wine
♥Splash of Chambord
♥Frozen berries to taste

Restaurant Review: Hiatus Urban BBQ

Restaurant Name: Hiatus
Location: 1292 S. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA
Halfsies Rating: ★★★★★
Halfsies Bank: $
Great for: Lunch, taco tuesday

What I loved: That the amazing slow-cooked BBQ is also healthy! It’s the best of both worlds!! Not to mention the amazing menu that is super straightforward (think Chipotle assembly line). Don’t forget to try the sauces and slaws (I love the Horseradish Sauce and the Kale/Apple Slaw)!

What I’d improve: I wish this badass space was bigger so that I could bring everyone I know!

What I’d recommend: A plate with pulled pork, spicy sauce (if horseradish isn’t your thing), and any of the slaws! You CANNOT leave without a smoked chocolate chip cookie! **They’re so good, mention Halfsies anytime through 8/1/14 to get a free cookie!!

Think the food looks bomb? The place is also amazingly decorated with rustic art-inspired pieces!

We even got to hang out with the owner / head chef! Thanks for hosting us Hiatus… my mouth is still watering!

Weekend Wardrobe #5: Bally, Vera Wang, Kaitlyn

Happy Father’s Day weekend! I surprised pops by taking him out to the theater, & this is what I wore! I love mixing denim with fancier fabrics and prints. The blue hues tied so wonderfully with the neutral blacks / browns of my outfit & accessories. Understated glam, ACHIEVED ♥

This week’s look:

◊ Shoes – Vera Wang ◊
◊ Purse – Bally ◊
◊ Dress – Kaitlyn ◊
◊ Leather Jacket – Vintage ◊

Street Style: Statement Piece

Statement necklaces are one of my favorite accessories this year! I love how you can revamp an understated outfit by simply adding a decorative piece! It is a great and easy way to be simple yet stylish! Personally, my go-to outfit is a chambray shirt with light colored pants/jeans, paired with a statement necklace. That is why I had to capture the outfit below! Check it out!

Inside Diamondback Stadium!

I just got back from a trip to Phoenix, where I started every morning chugging espresso <<above>> in the comforts of my heavenly Ritz-Carlton suite (holla at free upgrades! thx Ritz!). My trip was primarily work-oriented, but was full of amazing surprises!

First… the Ritz is crazy about succulents. I never really thought that I liked succulents until this trip! They were everywhere, paired with driftwood and bright sands. LOVE IT. This is a perfect DIY home decor idea.

Second, my rental car was MIA when I arrived, so I got another upgrade (wait for it)… to a BRIGHT ORANGE CHALLENGER. This babe of a car was calendar photo-shoot worthy.

The third, and probably best surprise of all, was a private tour of Diamondback Stadium! The Dbacks are a client, so they hooked it up big time. We ate a lunch of salads & spritzers while overlooking the field, then followed with a VIP tour of everything Diamondback.

♦ Our view from lunch! ♦

♦ BUSTED! Testing out the drunk-tank ♦

 ♦ Press conference time! ♦

♦ Inside the locker room ♦

♦ Newest Goldschmidt fans ♦

♦ Locker room batting cages ♦

♦ Dugout! Next at bat: HALFSIES!! ♦

♦ Chillin’ on the field ♦

We had the best time ever in Phoenix, and now I’m newly inspired to be a good baseball fan. Angels / Dodgers, until you invite us in VIP-style, I think I’m a Dback fan ;)

Weekend Wardrobe #4: bebe, Joie, Forever21

Last night was all about dinner & bar hopping with friends. To get comfortable, I ditched the heels and went with some super cute Joie sandals instead. By the end of the night, I was the last one dancing (and my feet were seriously grateful).
