Weekend Wardrobe: Cool Tones

IMG_9048There is no other way to spend a casual, sunny and cool Sunday, than at brunch with friends! Since I was feeling a bit lazy from the busy weekend, I went for a more laid-back look that would also work well with the weather. This outfit embraces a casual cool vibe with the neutral colors, cuffed denim jeans, and white flowy kimono. I had to obviously top the outfit off with a few of my favorite accessories – reflective sunnies and my TanneryLA bag!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and is refreshed for another week ahead! Cheers!

Lou & Grey

I wanted to share my at home milk frothing process and latest obsession: at home cinnamon hemp milk cappuccinos! This is my favorite afternoon snack and is now the ONLY way I’ll take my coffee. You’ll be shocked how easy it is to froth hemp milk!

Also… I am simply loving this new sweater from Lou & Grey! Check it out in the photos below! It’s super soft and just warm enough to cuddle up in but still look put together… I’ve even worn this to work!

How to make my fave coffee ever:
1. Pour a small amount of milk (however much you would normally want in your coffee/cappuccino) into a small jar w/ lid
2. Close the lid and SHAKE! for 30 seconds
3. Place the glass jar into the microwave for 30 seconds, without the lid

That’s it! It comes out super frothy… like magic! Pour over your coffee or espresso shot, and spoon the froth onto the top to make it look extra pretty before you enjoy! I like to top mine off with some cinnamon, and if I really feel like indulging I add some stevia.

*Just a note, this tends to work best with low fat milks like 2%, almond milk, or hemp milk.

Black and White

IMG_8627This is my attempt to try to stay cool, yet edgy chic, while existing in Los Angeles. Also, the front tuck – business in the front, party in the back – is one of my favorite ways to style a top and pants together. It is a way to define your waist, without making it the focal point. To add, the shorts used to be pants, but I decided to cut them because I couldn’t find black cutoffs that I liked…DIY fact.

Skinny Ice Cream Bites

Ok – so these may not be ice cream, but I swear they’re just as good! If you’ve ever frozen a banana and put it in a blender, you know that a cold banana has creamy, dessert-like features.

I came home one day to find a pile of these in the fridge, with everything from peanut butter to honey to marmalade in the center of little slices of banana. Turns out my sister is a skinny genius. My favorite combo is the kind with nutella, pictured here!

All you do is slice a ripe banana into thin pieces and make little mini banana sandwiches with whatever spread tickles ya!

Comment below! What flavor would you try? Any unique suggestions??

PS – betchya can’t have just one! I usually eat the whole batch in one sitting… but hey! it’s just a banana ;)

Shaggy Moth Cardigan

IMG_0813new1IMG_0788new2IMG_0824IMG_0797

I got this shaggy cardigan vest from Moth! Anthropologie carries lots of their looks, and I’m super into it. I love this shaggy vest because it’s so fun and artsy and totally makes an LBD that much more fashionable! If you look closely, the cardigan literally looks like a shaggy rug (which is why I’m obsessed with it, obviously). Plus, the back drapes open and is super fun and flirty for wearing with jeans and nothing but a bandeau!

Cucumber Salmon Hummus Bites

IMG_0667

These little bites are too easy and delicious to be this healthy! As you know, I’m always looking for new healthy snacks that are guilt-free. These are perfect and quick, and even my non-healthy friends couldn’t get enough (tricked ’em)!

Slice persian cucumbers at an angle (slicing at an angle makes the surface longer so that you can load it with more content!). Next, spread with a dallop of hummus and top with a little piece of smoked salmon. These are also great with prosciutto!

Enjoy!

Weekend Wardrobe: Black & Lace

Happy daylight savings weekend! I’m so excited for the time change – now daylight will last longer, meaning after work hikes and dinners served outside on my sunny patio! This weekend’s look is perfect for those long sunny days that turn into night. Black mini + detailed blouse, and you’re good to go!

Jewelry Tray DIY

3-6-2015 12-55-35 PM There’s nothing better than the smell of 1,000 candles all burning at once! Ok – slight exaggeration but I do love putting my apt alight when I get home after a long day! Sometimes, I’ll strategically light certain scents at the same time so that I can get the perfectly blended, custom aroma that I love. One of my current fave scents? Anything pear w/ sandalwood and spice. I’m trying to embrace for as long as possible before I feel forced by the onset of Spring to move to more floral options. Anyways, if you’re like me, you know that a good candle can be a decent investment. That’s why being able to repurpose the gorgggg things can make all the difference! I use old candles to hold mints & gumballs on the coffee table, to arrange flowers in, and especially to throw loose rings/jewelry into! The one pictured here is from Anthropologie. All ya gotta do? Once your candle has burnt all the way down, stick it in the freezer overnight. The frozen wax bits will chip right off and BAM – good to go. It’s pretty amazing how effective this is! (Just make sure to rinse thoroughly if using for anything edible!) IMG_0670 IMG_0674 IMG_0746IMG_0764 IMG_0753

Banana Nut Breakfast Muffins

3-3-2015 12-25-25 PM

I’m back on my paleo grind, which means none of my favorite pastries for breakfast (tear, it was fun pretending to be Parisian with my pain au chocolat & espresso while it lasted). Desperate for a fun alternative to spoonfulls of almond butter, I spent this weekend in the kitchen in a trial-and-error kind of craze until voila! I perfected the world’s most delicious paleo breakfast muffin.

What you’ll need:
♥ 4 eggs
♥ 4 bananas
♥ 1/4 cup coconut oil
♥ 1/3 cup peanut or almond butter
♥ 1 tsp vanilla extract
♥ 1 tsp honey
♥ 1 tsp stevia
♥ 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
♥ 1 tsp baking powder
♥ 1 tsp baking soda
♥ 2 tsp cinnamon
♥ 1 tsp allspice
♥ 1 cup chia seeds, blended down
♥ Handful blueberries or dark chocolate chips (optional)

How to:
1. Smash together bananas, eggs, and nut butter using a fork. Add all remaining wet ingredients and combine in a large bowl. Melt down coconut oil & nut butters if needed. Use hand blender to ensure that all contents are evenly mixed!
2. Pulse chia seeds and walnuts in a blender. Add dry ingredients to your wet mixture, mixing slowly until smooth.
3. Spoon evenly into muffin tin with paper liners. Bake 20 minutes at 350°

Eat immediately while warm, or store for an on-the-go breakfast! If saving for later, keep in an air tight container, or refrigerate.

(And yes, in case you were wondering, fun cupcake liners DO make all the difference–find some here, here, here):

Weekend Wardrobe: Hooded Fur Coat

This weekend’s look is a little confused because, well, I was a little confused. There was finally a forecast of rainstorms and showers for soCal, which made me so happy! I love the fresh smell of a rainy weekend, and was looking forward to brunching in my warm winter ware. But try as it might to rain, the sunshine prevailed for the most part, leading to fashion improvisations on my part. I ended up with the unconventional look of sandaled feet and a fur-lined face–a look that I’ll definitely replicate going forward (no sweaty ugg feet for me, thx)! Made brunching outdoors on an overcast day super comfy and still glam. I know this isn’t a look you’re likely to see on the east coast, but it was perfect for a more chilly, still chic Cali weekend!
